Places We Reccomend You Visit During Your Stay

Kentwell Hall

Kentwell is a lived-in family home, which has been continuously occupied for over 500 years. We host a multitude of special events throughout the season, from Living History and family-friendly events to Open Air Cinema and Halloween fun. We truly have something for everyone to enjoy!

Lavenham Village And The Crooked House

Described by Country Life as “one of the world’s most photographed homes” and recently voted “Suffolk’s most Instagrammable place”, The Crooked House in Lavenham is a must-see for all visitors to the county. Built in 1395, The Crooked House is said to be the inspiration for the old English nursery rhyme ‘There was a Crooked Man’. Today, it is home to two ‘Crooked Men’ – husbands Alex and Oli – who share their 600-year-old home’s remarkable story through events, experiences, art and gifts.

Explore Long Melford

The Melford Walk follows a section of the disused railway line that once linked Sudbury to Bury St Edmunds. This section skirts the eastern edge of Long Melford. The mood of the walk varies along its length, an escape into a secretive, hidden world! Directions to start: Long Melford is located off the A134, south of Bury St Edmunds. Parking: Join the walk in Long Melford on Southgate Street (Sudbury Road).

Melford Hall – National Trust

For over two centuries Melford Hall has been the much loved family home of the Hyde Parkers. This unassuming mellow brick mansion is full of surprises with modern family photographs side-by-side with Tudor portraits. We have lots of stories to share about family life and about visits from the Hyde Parker’s cousin Beatrix Potter – you can even see the original Jemima Puddleduck toy that she gave to them.

Harry Potters Birthplace

Chocolate-box Lavenham offers everything you could want from a place often called the Best Kept Medieval Village in England. The charming market town played its part in the blockbuster movie, The Deathly Hallows Part 1 & Part 2, as Godric’s Hollow, the magical village where Harry Potter was born. De Vere House in the town played the part of the Potter family home. The magnificent 15th century medieval home is painted a distinctive bright orange colour with timber frames all over the outside.

Abbey Gardens – Bury St Edmunds

The internationally acclaimed Abbey Gardens, in the centre of historic Bury St Edmunds, attracts thousands of visitors each year, drawn by the superlative floral displays, the ancient setting and the excellent facilities.
